The Production Process

Juveniles

The first step is the breeding of juveniles and is carried out in land-based hatchery. The Culmárex Group has its own selected broodfish. Fertilised eggs from these broodfish are incubated and hatched under highly controlled conditions. The tiny larvae are initially fed specially grown live feeds then weaned onto dry diets. The feeds are specially formulated to meet the nutritional needs of the fish in each phase of their development.

On growing

The on-growing phase is carried out in open sea, taking advantage of the natural currents which provide a constant renewing of the water, and create an ideal environment to develop high quality aquaculture production. The juvenile fish are brought from the pre-ongrowing unit in Mallorca by well boat and transferred to special cages moored in the sea, which allow the fish freedom of movement, protection from predators. The rearing cycle is strictly controlled by trained personnel. State of the art underwater video-vigilance technology is used to optimise feeding and ensure the best husbandry conditions.

Harvest

The harvest of the fish is done at night or at sunrise, collecting only the exact amount required, with no excess. This activity is carried out with utmost care so as not to damage or stress the fish. After harvest the fish are transferred in insulated tanks with sea water and ice until arrival at the packing plant.

Process

From here the process is continual and efficient. The fish are graded according to size and packed in special conservation boxes with drainage which guarantee freshness and that the product arrives at its final destination in perfect condition.

The daily contact of our commercial team with our clients, allows us to meet their demands in a rapid and efficient way. We can maintain our policy of daily harvesting with no storage, ensuring maximum freshness of our products.

Logistics

The Culmárex Group works with an external company operating a fleet of insulated Lorries that distributes our products throughout the Spanish and European markets.
